Set Specific Goals

Writing a research paper is a lot easier on you, the student, when you set yourself certain goals. All of this takes place before you start the research and the writing. The saying goes that if you fail to prepare, you prepare to fail. So rather than rushing in to begin writing your research paper, stop, take stock of the situation and list your goals. Here are a few possible specific goals.

  • set up a timetable
  • create an ideal topic
  • create an ideal thesis statement
  • become an expert note taker
  • create an outstanding plan

Hints for college students: How to write a chemistry paper

Filled with graphs, statistics, and formulas; a chemistry paper is different to other subject papers in a number of ways. There is a pattern to follow when writing this type of assignment which involves five main points of focus:

  • Observing
  • Stating a theory
  • Testing the theory
  • Recording your results
  • Coming to a final conclusion

Let’s take a closer look at how to go about delving into these elements of your chemistry paper.

You will start off by making observations about your subject of study. This is a simple process of explaining to your reader what you are dealing with. Let’s pretend your subject is a substance. How does that substance react to certain combinations? What are the qualities that are inherent to the substance?

Now you will tell the reader what your presupposition is regarding the experimentation process. Your paper will be written in order to prove yourself right. The statement section of your chemistry paper is the part where you tell the reader what exactly you are trying to prove.

At this point you will start using a certain method to take your subject and put it through its paces. Experimentation must be explained to the reader and every aspect of equipment and procedures must be described. Walk your reader through your own journey. Let them be a part of the process of discovery you yourself are endeavouring on.

Every result of your experimentation should be noted and discussed. The point of a chemistry paper is to come to a conclusion about something. Now that you have fully analyzed your subject, and then experimented with it, you can safely draw your conclusions and state them to your reader. Also remember to go back to your original statement to see if what you predicted matches with the results you now have.

End your chemistry paper by talking about what these results mean for your area of study. What have you brought to the table with your discoveries? What further material can your reader source to get a fuller picture of what you’ve done? Are there any other suggestions you’d like to make? You can also go over all of the steps you’ve covered in former paragraphs. Give the reader an overview of the journey you and they took and remind them of key sections in your paper.
