term paper writing manuals
Writing a research paper is a lot easier on you, the student, when you set yourself certain goals. All of this takes place before you start the research and the writing. The saying goes that if you fail to prepare, you prepare to fail. So rather than rushing in to begin writing your research paper, stop, take stock of the situation and list your goals. Here are a few possible specific goals.
When you are writing an argumentative research paper you need to start with a strong topic. But what defines a strong research paper topic? What is the secret to selecting argumentative research paper topics?
Chances are that these two coincide at some point or another. If you are passionate about something you will feel strongly about one side. You will know both sides (or all of the sides if there are multiple) regarding the subject. You will have a deep reasoning behind your choice and therefore be well equipped to argue it successfully.
It is also likely that something about which you are passionate is something you have argued in the past. If your family is very religious and anti-gay rights but you feel the opposite it is very likely that a family dinner or two ended with a heated debate.
If you have experience arguing something that also means that you have knowledge about it. You have read articles and newspapers regarding the topic and you are up to date with any recent changes or studies or legislature related to the topic. You have probably poured over books and been infuriated secretly when you read an article or blog post written by a supporter of the opposite side.
It means that when you select a pro-gay rights stance in your argumentative paper you will already have a great deal of knowledge related to the topic. You will be well equipped to sit down and jot an outline down with the points for and against giving gay couples the same dependent rights as non-gay couples in the military (should that be your more precise argumentative topic). You will significantly reduce the amount of time you will spend writing because your mind will already know what you want to write which means you will type faster than if you are slowly piecing together an argument from scratch.
You will also reduce the amount of time you spend studying and researching because you are already familiar with the best sources and have them readily available and at your disposal.
So: what is the secret to choosing a strong argumentative research paper topic? Picking something that you love and something that you know.
